Introduction
Nova Scotia has a long tradition of music, dance, live theatre and house parties or ceilidhs (pronounced kay-lees, Gaelic for ‘gathering’). By the 1780s, Halifax had two theatres: the "old" Grand on Argyle Street and the "new" Grand on Grafton Street. Before its demolition in 1929, plays, concerts and operas were performed at the Academy of Music. Nova Scotia is also well known for storytelling, fine arts and a large community of craftspeople.
